Elwood-John Glenn H.S. is performing "Working, the Musical," this year! Come see a talented and exciting ensemble cast, featuring music by James Taylor, Lin Manuel Miranda(In the Heights, Hamilton), Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), and more! "Working," is based on the book by Studs Turkle in 1974, which documents real-life working class citizens of different regions and occupations, shedding light on the importance of the day-to-day life and skill of the American worker. There is drama, comedy, song and dance in this fun, 'out-of-the-box' musical production.
The original production opened and ran for over a year in 1977 at the Goodman Theater in Chicago. In the spring of 1978, it then moved to the 46th Street Theater on Broadway, where Patti Lepone took the stage. There, it was nominated for 6 Tony Awards, and won two Drama Desk Awards of it's six nominations. As real people and occupations often do, the show has been through many changes over time. The musical was revised by Stephen Schwarts for a California production in 1999, when Lin Miranda wrote two new songs for the show. The cast and producion team is proud to bring this revision to the John Glenn H.S. stage.
Please arrive early for best seating as all tickets are general admission. There will be a 15 minute intermission, where you may purchase refreshments in our cafeteria.
